What are the elements of the crime of attempted murder in Missouri?

Don't know, but if you Google "attempted murder Missouri" you'll see several cases where that charge is involved.

I would think that shooting at someone multiple times would count as attempted murder regardless of how bad your aim was.

I thought I’d go through the MO. statutes, since what we’re dealing with here is the criminal charges the DA brought. Haven’t found anything called attempted murder yet, but the crime of assault in the first degree (565.050) is defined as including an attempt to kill. Assault’s the charge he filed.

Well, by golly, I actually found something under a section of the criminal code for inchoate offenses. It covers an attempt to commit murder, but it’s not called Attempted Murder. Under 564.011, an attempt to commit a class A felony is a class B felony.

A DA, given the evidence, would most likely file the more serious class A assault charge, instead of the less serious attempt to commit a felony charge.
