CONCORD, N.H. Republican upstart Scott Walker yesterday was embraced by a rapturous crowd of hundreds of Granite Staters, who roared appreciation for his red-meat foreign and domestic policy views as he hinted he will be making his candidacy official.
Well be back many more times to New Hampshire, he promised.
Walkers two-day visit came on a swing of early primary states: He was in Iowa last weekend and is headed to South Carolina next. He used his one public appearance at Concord High School to regale the crowd with tales of his humble upbringing, to blast Common Core and to condemn ISIS.
My belief is that, just like a virus in a computer, we need to go to whatever length is required to make sure that we eradicate radical Islamic terrorism where its at before it washes up, Walker said, as the crowd of Republicans attending a party training session erupted in applause. I dont believe that means that you want to automatically go with ground troops, although unlike this president, I will not signal to our enemies how far we will go.
In implicit contrast with GOP front-runner Jeb Bush also visiting the state this weekend Walker took pains to reference his own background, mentioning his days washing dishes and flipping burgers at McDonalds, and name-checking discount retailer Kohls.
I actually stopped by Kohls and bought this sweater in the rack where its 70 percent off, he said, pointing to his sweater. And we paid one dollar for it with our Kohls Cash ... so, living the high life, he added.
The crowd loved it.
Bush is a nice guy, said attendee Philip Miner, 57, of Cheshire County, but his last name is Bush.
It was a great day for the Republican Party, no question about it, New Hampshire Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn said. We had 400 grass-roots activists together, energized, excited. Obviously, Gov. Walker was very well-received.
Walker drew whoops and hollers from the crowd when he discussed his Feb. 3 budget proposal removing the legal requirement for schools in Wisconsin to abide by the new educational standards known as Common Core. Walkers first budget as governor supported Common Core in 2011, but he called for repeal last summer.
Im all for high standards, Walker said. But I want those to be set at the local level.
Walker, like Bush, has not officially declared his candidacy but there have been hints. He said yesterday his 19- and 20-year-old sons plan to ditch college this fall to come to New Hampshire.
They twisted our arms to figure out a way to maybe take part of a semester off next year, next fall, to come to New Hampshire, to come around the country and talk to young people like themselves, Walker said.
Not waiting for Walker a famous foe of labor rights to make his candidacy
official, union members rallied outside yesterdays event.

Debt and government overreach - income tax
NOTE: I read earlier in the week that Walker was fighting a cold - you will notice a nagging remnant of that when he talks. fwiw

Jeb probably never shopped at Kohl. He either has the maid or the misses do his shopping while he takes care of ‘important stuff’.
Jeb has got to see the contrast of how he gets welcomed vs how Scott Walker gets welcomed. I could sense the delight and excitement from Walkers speech just by watching and listening. Everyone was lit up, the audience members as well.
I wouldn't call Kohls cheap but they keep sending me these ‘15-20-30% off for four days’ cards in the mail, but you have to use their credit card to get it.
“In implicit contrast with GOP front-runner Jeb Bush”
GOP-e frontrunner, maybe. I’m not voting for him, that’s for sure.
It is gimmicky - like our tax code!
Let’s cut out the gimmicks and simplify it!
This seems to be the new USA. The white Christian working man identifies with buying a $1 sweater because paying for the minorities (government benefits for s/s they never paid into to separate jets on the same day to the same place by POTUS and mooch) is just too damn expensive.
I’ve had it up to here with constant talk of race and guilt everyone is supposed to feel.
True! Why should some bureaucrat in Washington DC, who spends half the day surfing the internet for porn, decide what's best for your child?
THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH! WALKER IS A RINO BECAUSE KOHL'S HIRED AN ILLEGAL ALIEN! I'M STAYING HOME IN 2016!
WHO'S GOT THE CRUZ PING LIST? < /S >
Not waiting for Walker a famous foe of labor rights
State employee lobbies ripping off the taxpayers is the opposite of “labor rights”.
“WASHINGTON — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said Saturday that eliminating the federal income tax sounded like a pretty appealing idea.
“I haven’t proposed that, although it sounds pretty tempting right now. Particularly in this state, I’d love that,” Walker said, speaking to a group of Republicans in New Hampshire.
But the likely 2016 presidential contender did not outright endorse the idea, which remains popular among fringe, libertarian voters in the Granite State. (New Hampshire is one of only nine states in the country that does not have a state income tax.) Instead, Walker ably pivoted to a discussion of lowering income tax rates, an alternative more consistent with mainstream views in the Republican Party.
“Certainly I think lower rates, we’ve talked about that. We’ve looked at that,” Walker said, adding, “should I get in this race, that’s something we’ll take on in that growth category out there.”
“I think putting more money back in the hands of the hardworking taxpayers, which is your money to begin with, is a much better way to grow the economy than through government so-called stimulus, which has a much lower rate of return than it does if you and other job creators have that money out there,” he said.
In 2014, Walker drew criticism from Mary Burke, who unsuccessfully challenged him for the governorship, after he expressed interest in eliminating Wisconsin’s state income tax.”.......

Maybe you don’t realize that the owner of this website is a Cruz supporter?
PRO-AMNESTY Walker will make a good Secretary of Labor for President Cruz.
Most FReepers are Cruz supporters.
But many of us see a Walker presidency as a VERY good idea.
Did I post to you?
No you didn’t post to me; you posted to this thread [that I started] so I felt it was reasonable for me to make a comment to your comment.
Are there some posting rules I haven’t been given?
I wasn’t addressing you posting yet another Walker thread, I was addressing Extremely Extreme Extremist and his bull$#*+ about the “Cruz list” and the rest of his nonsense. Do you agree with his post #9 and similar ones on other Walker threads then?
From the piece you linked “Despite the sobriquet Silent Cal, Coolidge was an expert at communicating his message. The first president to utilize radio, Coolidge consistently employed terse one-liners that resonated with the public. Americans recognized Coolidge for what he was a straight-talking, common-sense conservative who, in the words of one commentator, never wasted any time, never wasted any taxpayers money, and never wasted any words.
Interesting, who knew Cal Coolidge was the father of the sound bite?
There are a lot of comments there, but most that I read were worthless.
GO WALKER!
