“If California ever put desalination plants on line (which will never happen) the water would be pumped in to the San Joaquin river for the Delta Smelt. But don’t worry. Malibu will always have green lawns.”

If you did more research before posting, you would learn the Poseidon desal plant will go online in Carlsbad (San Diego County) later this year, and another is well along for approvals in Huntington Beach (Orange County).

There is an existing desal plant in Morro Bay (San Luis Obispo County), as well. Those span 3 counties along the central southern coast. San Diego County, Orange County, Ventura County and San Luis Obispo County all voted Republican before Obama. That is four out of the six most southern coastal counties of California.

San Diego County, Duncan Hunter, Jr., Darrel Issa
Orange County, Dana Rohrabacher
San Luis Obispo County, Tom McClintock old district location

San Diego County, Duncan Hunter, Jr., Darrel Issa Orange County, Dana Rohrabacher San Luis Obispo County, Tom McClintock old district location Thanks for the education. I am genuinely surprised that California, the land of trees and fish that are more important that farmers and agriculture, actually allowed desal plants on the coast. I had assumed that the coastal elites would fight tooth and nail to prevent any development of anything besides their own houses. I dealt with the coastal commissiion working as a grunt construction worker in Ventura so I am aware the power that the coastal elites reign over the plaebes. The project was a house rebuild. One goon from the coastal commission came out and approved the entire plan so the crew framed the entire house and then the roofing crew came and started installing the approved roofing. Another goon came out from the coastal commission and said that the roof was too high because the other goon used the wrong mean ocean standard for measuring the roof line. SO... Construction was shut down, a crane had to be hired, the entire roof was cut off, lifted, and all the framing chopped 6 inches shorter, and then the roof was reattached. Of course this doesn't mention all the new engineering, and plans, and bribes paid to the jerks at the county, city, and of course, the coastal commission. Aside from the grandfathered plants on the coast (Redondo, Rincon terminal, and Moss Landing) I had assumed there would never be another large scale industrial project 50 miles from the coast of California.
