I think you’re right. Problem is they have no bench. Other than Warren, who is older, not terribly photogenic, has some baggage of her own, and flat “isn’t Hillary” in the eyes of those who have waited all this time for it to be Hillarys Turn. They could never sell a white guy like Rahm or O’Malley and the only others are waaay down the list, like Gillibrand.

I don't discount him making at least an attempt at running. Maybe a Biden/Warren ticket for instance. I also read some blogger who opined that Jerry Brown could decide to run.
Obama himself was a relative latecomer in his first race. And practically unknown. He was the Kennedy candidate and when it comes right down to it, I'd wager that this is more Kennedy v. Clinton than Obama v. Clinton. Obama is serving as proxy.
