Here's why mass deportation isn't a financially viable option

It’s not necessary to actively deport them all.

Indeed. About 10 years ago when this "too expensive" B/S was being bandied about, two anecdotals, among many, stood out.

One was from San Antonio, TX where a green helicopter flew over a large tract of homes under construction. Rumor had it that "La Migra" was checking for illegals. There was an ensuing stampede out of the area and in some cases, people fled back across the border, leaving everything behind, such was the panic. It turned out it was the developer flying some investors over the area.

The other was from a nurse who read that article. She said that one Saturday night at the ER, things were unusually quiet, with hardly anyone in attendance. She went outside on a break for some fresh air and noticed a "La Migra green" van parked outside. She said the standing joke thereafter was that when the medics wanted a break from all the hassle, they kidded about getting someone with a similar-colored van to park it outside.

While La Migra might not be as feared as they were then, as many here have pointed out, even just the HINT of enforcement sends many running. Money can then be well spent tracking down the slowpokes.

It’s not necessary to actively deport them all. Just enforce employment verification, and most will leave of their own accord.

Ding, ding ding... We have a winner!

However we would also have to stop the dems (with the full support of the Chamber) at the local, state and federal level form giving them tax payer provided support.

If them dems have their way they don't even need employment.

Don't have to mass deport. Build walls on the borders stop the inflow and up the deportation budget just 10 percent and your illegal problem will shrink by a million or more every year.

It’s costing us much more than that to keep them. The destruction of the trades and they accompanying wage suppression is but one aspect. There is not enough bandwidth on this site to detail the negative impact of the unfettered illegal occupation of this country, and the price will be paid in perpetuity.

Forget financially viable, it's logistically impossible. And the simplest reason it will never work is that the first time someone is scheduled for a deportation who's status turns out to be less clear-cut that at first thought*, there will be a lawsuit filed, and a federal judge will put a halt to the whole program, citing irreparable potential harm to people falsely identified for deportation.

* And if you even for a second entertain the thought that this type of situation can be prevented, please remember that this program will be administered by government types. Mistakes will happen, and far more frequently than a private enterprise would make them.

Repeal ZeroCare and reallocate the money. It’s a price worth paying.

A good start would be to block money transfers to Mexico, and to effectively seal the borders. What a novel idea.

I said it before; charge Mexico $2,000/mo for every illegal. And watch the Mexican Federales protect the border for us.

Well, aside from this being analytical masturbation on behalf of the government, if they REALLY needed the money to do it, they could get every cent plus some by halting payments to the 6.5 million ACTIVE Social Security cards/accounts of people older than 112 years old (of which there are 35 in the world)...

I have a better idea. Fill Mexican jails with American businessmen and politicians who continue to abet the free flow of illegal immigrants from whatever country. Harsh? No. Not nearly as harsh as marching on Mexico City and burning the National Palace to the ground.

Si, se puede !

A peculiar straw man. No serious public figure of any political stripe has ever advocated "mass deportations" as a solution to the current crisis. Maybe this blogger should focus on something that is real.

We don’t have to deport these illegals.Just deny them the ability to get any benefits for themselves or their progeny and they will go back to where they came.

They don’t belong here.

The bottleneck is the small number of judges hearing their cases. You have millions of illegal immigrants being funneled through fewer than 300 courtrooms. Increase that by a factor of 10 or 20 and you cut the backlog.

20 billion a year to deport? In the scheme of things it is a drop in the bucket. I say do it.

How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

A quick Google search doesn't really show any cost estimates, but it shouldn't have cost nearly as much as the libs make it out to be.

Their home countries got them to self-deport. So why can’t we?
