What McDonalds excelled at was providing a product with wide appeal and predictable quality.

If you went to McDonalds in Virginia or Missouri OT California you knew what to expect.

You got inexpensive food, consistent across any venue, and served quickly..

No one ate at McDonalds because the menu was exceptional. It was cheap, fast, and predictable.

There is a market for that. but the market is not because they did anything exceptional.

Sure they did something exceptional.....it was the speed, and it had not been seen before.

That was the key for me when I took my 5 on a rare outing to McDonalds back in the 60s.....speed.
