I’m not going to say that Walker isn’t Conservative. The fact is, I really don’t know much about him & I hope that there will soon be a website that compares & contrasts the 2016 GOP candidates against ea other by Conservative principles if such a website doesn’t already exist.

However...I read an recent article that Walker won’t oppose federal corn ethanol subsidies to IA corn farmers, & that he made that statement while campaigning in IA. Is that correct? Doesn’t that sound like pandering rather than opposing federal handouts on principle?

Not true.

Walker said he wants to end the subsidies, but not cold turkey. One issue Walker brought up is that ethanol producers are not allowed to sell their product into the fuels market under current law. It is only through the EPA program mandates that they can sell to refineries.

What Walker proposed was to phase out the ethanol subsidies while opening the markets to ethanol producers. You see, Walker believes in competition and having another fuel source freely compete with gasoline, diesel, CNG, hydrogen, etc is good for the economy. It will also be less disruptive to the ethanol producers who will not be left out in the cold if subsidies are simply cut off.

Walker's plan is more thoughtful and in-line with conservative principles than either keeping the subsidies in place or just cutting them off cold turkey.
