They may have “sunk” it with a simulated nuke but I doubt they could do it through conventional means. Once a sub fires its first shot the screening forces know exactly where it is.

Depends. There is supposed to be “swim-out” torpedoes. Swim out reduces the “transient” that occurs when a torpedo is ejected using compressed air.
