Without Everett Dirksen and the Republican minority in the Senate the Civil Rights Bill of 1965 wouldn’t have been passed.
Without the Republican Party in 1866, 1868 and for the rest of forever there would never have been any Civil Rights act, Amendments to the Constitution, and definitely no black elected officials anywhere in the federal union.
