Then you would have to change the Constitution as I see it, because the AG is a cabinet-level position just like the SOS, the POSTMASTER, and all the rest. But I agree with you, that this should be changed because we have no mechanism for law enforcement if the AG is the Presidents “boy!”
Either this or something like being willing to impeach far more than what has been historical custom.
The Constitution does not spell out what the cabinet-level offices are. The Attorney General is a cabinet officer as a result of a law passed by Congress. The Postmaster General used to be a cabinet officer but no longer is.
