Daylight Saving Time: Negligible Energy Savings, Possibly Deadly?
Forbes ^ | March 6, 2015 | Tom Zeller Jr.

If you happen to live in Hawaii, Arizona (mostly) Saskatchewan (and bits of other Canadian provinces), or the Midway Atoll of the North Pacific — well, congratulations. You will not be subjected this weekend to the much-maligned, poorly understood ritual obligation of turning your clock ahead one hour, in observance of Daylight Saving Time.

For most of the rest of the North America, as of Sunday you’ll be doing your part, ostensibly, to save the nation energy. In return, your evenings will be a bit brighter, the mornings a bit darker, and if you’re like me, your overall schedule will be a bit disorienting — at least until you adjust.

You’ll then need to move the clocks back again on Nov. 1, of course.

It used to be the last Saturday/Sunday in March, why is it now the first Saturday/Sunday in March?

Now it’s back to dark mornings for kids - who have enough trouble as it is getting to school at 8:00.

Before the world went insane school schedules were simple. First class was at 9:00 am, lunch from 12:00 to 1:00, three classes after lunch out at 4:00. Six classes a day eazy peazy.

I’m pretty much convinced that my life proceeds on Daylight time whereas my wife’s proceeds on standard time. We live an hour apart

Which goes a long way toward explaining this phenomenon. She's really just searching the mall for you.

I feel sorry for people who are so weak as to have trouble adjusting by an hour.

Please. DST is a damned relic from when the nation needed to squeeze just a few more minutes of light into the buggy whip factory clerestory windows.

Exactly right. I decide I want a pair of jeans. I go to the store that has them and buy a pair. My wife goes to get her a pair of jeans and it looks like the drawing. Has to handle every pair in each of the stores and then comes home 6-8 later and says she couldn’t find anything she liked. Then the next week goes back to the same stores as the prior week with the same results. I asked why she didn’t try different stores somewhere else and only got a far away look? Amazing!

I did farm type work so we could work until 8-9 in the evening and still get home before dark.
