Congress demands Obama-approved IRS emails disclosing taxpayers’ info
The Washington Times ^ | March 4, 2015 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 03/04/2015 9:30:06 AM PST by jazusamo

Two top congressional chairmen demanded Wednesday that the IRS turn over all its emails that might have given private taxpayer information to the White House, after President Obama’s lawyer last week passed the buck to the tax agency, insisting they would be able to search for the emails.

The IRS last year had claimed it didn’t have the technological ability to search for those emails, so Senate Finance Chairman Orrin G. Hatch and House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan went to the White House for them. In letters last month White House lawyer W. Neil Eggleston declined, saying he was certain the IRS would be able to respond.

So the two lawmakers went back to the tax agency in a letter Wednesday, saying it’s up to them to comply.

“In light of the White House counsel’s refusal to comply with our request, we ask that you provide the documents — originally requested in April of last year — without delay,” the chairmen said.

The IRS is allowed to share private taxpayer information with the White House, but the president must personally approve the request.

The committees want to know how well that process is working, so they requested the emails as part of their oversight duties.

IRS officials didn’t respond to a message from The Washington Times seeking comment Tuesday morning, but last year Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress they couldn’t search emails of 90,000 employees to try to find those that went to or came from the White House.

B.S. It is a sizable job but it is not infeasible in a reasonable amount of time. I'll bet it could be done in a month or less.

When the communists shuts the door it is damn well shut hard. This effort is useless and the IRA is a communists controlled organization and cannot be hurt. It is beyond the law like most of this current Administration and may never clean up the corrupt.

There are appliances that will automate the task of searching through emails. But Koskinen doesn’t want to admit such things exist. . .

I’ll bet the GOP are threatening a strongly worded letter with their demands. The Dems must be shaking in their boots.

A year has gone by since their first request, which was ignored.

On another thread below, a Republican “fireball” trying to get information from the Consumer Financial Protection (whatever) is complaining of being bitch-slapped by those mean ‘rats.

Boehner appointed Trey Gowdy in May of 2014 and sicced him on the ‘rats. That was ten months ago. Gowdy’s finally getting to enforcement of subpoenas issue last spring.

Darrell Issa. The ‘Treebeard’ of the GOP’s Spanish Inquisition whirlwind:
“Let’s not ... be ... hasty little Hobbits! We ... have ... determined ... they ... are ... not ... Orcs.”

Yeah, these guys are real pit bulls! That is, if the pit bulls were actually old cats with no teeth sleeping 23/7 on the back stoop, occasionally rousing themselves to dig through garbage cans.

But he’ll survive these hearings and will retire with an outrageously generous pension.

As a postscript, in most states when a party is served with “discovery”: Interrogatories (questions), Requests for Admissions, subpoenas (appear) or subpoena duces tecum (provide copies of these materials), by trial rule they have thirty days to return their answers or supply the materials requested, if there is no objection and hearing, or continuance agreed to by the parties or granted by a judge.

The difference between ‘pubs v. ‘rats, and a lawsuit?

In a lawsuit, the lawyers are concerned about the opinion of their clients and are subject to ethical standards, as well as rules, and at least for the good ones, with a concern that the law be effected and that justice be served in a timely manner.
(”Justice delayed is justice denied.”)
The Republicans are apparently motivated solely by political considerations and are unconcerned about the opinions of them that brung them to this here barn dance.
There it is.

Based on their actions instead of their words, I am convinced that the Repubs act this way only so that they can say to their voters “see we tried”. After the Amnesty vote yesterday, they are all pathetic. Cant stand them.

Exactly . Subpoena, or better just move to a contempt charge and refer to house sgt of arms to hold in jail for perjury until the records are produced.

Enough already!

What else is the IRS and Obama hiding?

The Congress better get some tecchies on-board to follow this...its more complicated than we could ever imagine.
