I don’t think the primary purpose of setting up her own e-mail was in order to hide criminal activity. Anything (else) against the law she would certainly not use e-mail to pursue.
Certainly one of the reasons was to provide her lawyers with an argument to not turn over e-mails, but perhaps there was an added benefit.
I think this particular ruse was also designed to obscure communications of a more personal nature.
Not necessarily her relationship with Huma Abedin, although that’s possible. Sidney Blumenthal also was on the network. Among things she might want to hide is her real relationship with Bill, something she wouldn’t want the American people to know. She and Bill have both lived secret lives for a long time. Must be agonizing psychologically to have to live this way. It shouldn’t surprise then, that she would need a secret internet presence, if only partly for emotional reasons.
In addition, could Hillary have been trying to hide things from Obama? After experiencing him during the Dem primary, could anyone fault her for that?
