WASHINGTON Sen. Ted Cruz joined with Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel on Monday to condemn Iran and rally support for Israel, on the eve of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus controversial speech to Congress.
Cruz mocked complaints that Netanyahus appearance Tuesday before a joint session of Congress — scheduled without the Israeli government or Speaker John Boehner consulting the White House — amounts to a breach of protocol or etiquette.
Its all nonsense. What matters is what we do right now to ensure that in no circumstances will the nation of Iran be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons capability, Cruz said.
Unfortunately, he added, the Obama administrations eagerness to seek a deal with Iran shows it doesnt seem too concerned about such a chilling possibility.
The behavior of the Obama White House suggests that they do not see any meaningful threat in Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, Cruz declared.
Administration officials say their negotiations are aimed at curbing Irans nuclear ambitions.
Wiesel, a Nobel Peace Prize winner widely revered by Jews, echoed Cruz is insisting the threat from Iran is real, and urging Congress and the White House to heed Netanyahus warnings.
As a Holocaust survivor, he said, I learned to rely not only on the promises of our friends, but on the threats of our enemies.
Cruz called it humbling to appear with Wiesel.
Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas casino magnate and major donor both to GOP and Zionist causes, sat in the front row of a packed Senate auditorium for the hour-long event. Most attendees wore credentials from the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee; Netanyahu addressed the pro-Israel group earlier Monday.

Elie going Republican in his old age?!
Thank you for your clarity Senator Cruz.
Ted Cruz is the only person who truly represents me in Congress. Best vote I have made since voting for Reagan both times.
If by some miracle the cheating, voting the graveyards, voting illegals, packing the ballot boxes, can be overcome and Cruz is elected I hope he has the fortitude to accomplish an unfortunate necessity and use EO/EA to invalidate everything the kenyan has done. Screw the poor unfortunates who will “suffer” and screw the house and senate who will surely oppose any of the Constitutional ways of accomplishing what is needed.
I’m sure drastic steps will have to be taken to reset the damages and then outlaw the use of these actions to circumvent the law.
