Discussion in turning the police back into the old-style community guy of Andy Griffith. Testimony of one kid in school without his school ID, suspended for the week. At the bus stop to go home, another cop stopped him for being out of school - the school hadn’t given him the proper “papers”. $600 and a week later he was back in class.
Another kid talked about how the school cop got him involved in after-school clubs, mentored him, etc.
I think the police have to wear all sorts of hats - arresting the bad guys and helping. (”Remember - their motto is ‘Protect and Serve’). In our community they all seem pretty good. (The next suburb over they are really hard-ass types.)
Of course, in the community outreach stuff they also propose that the cops get extra training in dealing with the GLTQTBXYZ community.
