The prime minister has created the dismal situation whereby even his speech to AIPAC, a day prior to Tuesday’s address to Congress, becomes somewhat problematic. Not only are America’s legislators being asked to choose between their president and the Israeli prime minister, as the veteran administration official Dennis Ross observed at the weekend. But AIPAC’s 16,000-strong, overwhelmingly Jewish audience, in mightily applauding Netanyahu, will be seen by some critics as endorsing a stance against the White House — even though many of those 16,000 have no desire to be torn in this way.
Netanyahu’s handling of this face-off has been staggeringly inept, another activist volunteered, and it follows a pattern of his alienating of world leaders — including but not limited to Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande and Joe Biden — and of exacerbating problems for Jewish communities — notably those in Europe that he has been urging to immigrate to Israel en masse.
There’s a good deal of truth in these critiques. There’s a great deal of truth, too, in the assertions from critics at home that this trip, this poking of a finger in the eye of President Barack Obama, is a calculated electoral gambit, designed to bolster support for the ostensibly unflinching Netanyahu among right-wing voters back home, to prevent them from defecting to rival parties and denying him victory on March 17. There’s no doubting the political machinations that saw the Prime Minister’s Office release a short clip of Netanyahu [ ... ] filmed at the Western Wall ahead of this trip — co-opting Judaism’s holiest place of worship to his campaign.

The reason why you fail to see a problem with that is that you’re not following the election coming up in Israel. You’re looking at it from the perspective of someone in the American political system.
The problem is ... and what you continually see Netanyahu DENY is that this is a PARTISAN ISSUE, because the opponents to Netanyahu in Israel are saying that Netanyahu is destroying this special relationship with the USA by making it a Partisan issue. The opposition is making this to be a CORE ISSUE of their campaign against him. If they succeed in getting the Jews in Israel to believe that ... then they stand a VERY GOOD CHANCE of DEFEATING NETANYAHU.
You’ll notice that Netanyahu CONTINUALLY DENIES THIS ... and that’s because he knows he can lose on this one!
At the same time ... if he doesn’t win the election ... he will have no opportunity to do that (”protect ISRAELI interests”) in ther Prime Minister’s office.
So they do not realize O is not their friend but an enemy?

The part of the address that caught my attention is where Bibi named the times the US warned Israel not to act on her own behalf and Israel did it anyway.
1. Declaring statehood
2. fighting while surrounded
3. Taking out Iraqs nukes
4. Acting against the Squators antifada.
I think Bibi was saying Israel reserves the right under international law of self defense.
Israel has a lot more military might that she keeps a secret
and if the SHTF Iran will be a burnt out hole in the ground.
This speech is the peaceful way around Irans mortal threat of a nuclear Jewish Holocaust.
But Bibi is serious this is not politics its survival.
Well, that’s hard to say if ISRAELIS in general think that or not. If they do think that, they’re not going to say it.
They realize that Israel needs help and support from the USA, and the also realize that the USA hold the position of power in this relationship. Therefore they understand the need to keep the relationship on an even keel and not antagonize the more powerful party. Now many may realize that Obama has been tougher on Israel than other Presidents, but they don’t want to antagonize Obama into being even worse than he already is.
SO ... this “idea” that Netanyahu is “poking Obama in the eye” and can thus end up with Israel getting an EVEN WORSE DEAL from Obama ... does “play well” with ISRAELI voters.
That’s why Netanyahu will NEVER say anything negative about Obama and that Netanyahu will ALWAYS PRAISE OBAMA! Look at all Netanyahu’s speeches meant for the USA ... he ALWAYS praises Obama, over and over again.
That’s why Netanyahu CONSTANTLY SAYS “we have no problem with the USA” ... but only a very little and extremely MINOR difference of opinion ... :-) ...
ISRAELIS cannot afford to be like Americans and criticize Obama freely. ONLY AMERICANS have that luxury ...
