The commanding officer of the Pearl Harbor-based Virginia-class fast attack submarine USS Mississippi was relieved of his duties Friday due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, the Navy said.
Cmdr. Tory Swanson was removed from his position by Capt. Harry Ganteaume, commander of Submarine Squadron 1. A command investigation into the circumstances leading to Swanson's relief is ongoing, the Navy said.
Cmdr. Brook DeWalt, a spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Fleet submarine force, said he was limited in what he could say, but that the removal "was a matter of professional nature not a personal transgression or anything like that. It's issues revolving around operational decision-making."
Swanson, who had served aboard Mississippi since April 2013, has been administratively reassigned to the staff of the Pacific Fleet submarine force, the Navy said.

Huh? Whats that mean?
He failed the Swear Alliance to Obama test
His vessel must’ve failed a supply inspection - yeah, that’s the ticket: Relieve the Captain at the slightest uncertainty.
FLOTUS?
lol..
FLOTUS wearing floaties, commanding the subs from a dinghy!!
Just like the Red Army 1938, all that's missing is the the one-way ticket to The Lubyanka.
That’s not my dingy said in my best inspector clouesoe voice
lol
I had a Battery Commander who was a great staff officer, but terrible with troops. During a tac eval, he encoded coordinates wrong for one of our platoons. We almost flunked over that. I was XO, and I ripped into the platoon leader for not questioning the mission.
The last night of the tac eval, the BC basically checked out. I was angry at the lack of leadership from all platoon leaders, and I laid out step by step what each and every squad would do the next day...I had guided 3 platoons in my 18 months as a platoon leader, I knew the job of every squad member.
Little did I know that the chief evaluator was outside our CP, and heard everything I said. I bumped into him a few moments later, and I thought "oh crap." Instead, he gave me a big smile and said "that was beautiful, LT." We will passed, barely.
Talking to a bunch of fellow submariners...many who have served with this guy...
Not one negative word about him...all who served with him liked him and thought him highly competent...from his time on various boats as a JO all the way up to CO...
More to this story than what is being told.
That boat is one of two at Pearl that has women aboard.
Look at the up side.
Out of all of these demoted and relieved of duty CO’s we may find the next King Arthur.
He screwed up when he registered as a republican.
“He probably answered the wrong way during the inquisition on what he thought of homosexual rights.”
EVERYBODY expects the Dorkbama inquisition.
The coup will come, or we are doomed.
Thanks for posting that. It’s apparent my initial assessment was wrong, big time. My apologies to the man.
It was the strawberries.
BTW...this guy was former enlisted...a Mustang of sorts....
