In the last two years there have been two major attempts by conservatives to defund catastrophic policies. One attempt was Obamacare in October of 2013 and the other attempt was executive amnesty this week.
In both attempts, the Republican House-passed bills were amended in the Senate to reinstate funding for Obamacare and executive amnesty.
In both attempts, the Republican House-passed bills were amended in the Senate to reinstate funding for Obamacare and executive amnesty.
In both cases, there werent 60 votes in the Senate to reinstate funding for these policies. So the majority leaders at the time had to resort to procedural chicanery to lower the threshold for reinstating funding to 51 votes.
In both circumstances, the Senate majority leader blocked out conservative amendments in favor of liberal amendments. In both attempts the exact same parliamentary tricks were used to reinstate funding. In the Obamacare fight it was liberal Harry Reid using the trick to reinstate Obamacare funding. In the executive amnesty fight it was newly elected Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who today used the exact same parliamentary trick to reinstate funding for Obamas executive amnesty with 51 votes instead of 60.
The only difference was one majority leader was labeled Republican and the other labeled Democrat, but they both took the exact same course of action to restore funding for a major Obama priority that will change our country forever.

You must be awfully-young.
I’ve been at this for over 30 years already. The conservative movement has been around for over 50 years.
I thought we had a chance when the GOP swept the 1994 elections, but the idiots did not take the opportunity to complete their Contract with America and amend the Constitution to institute Term Limits for both the House (6 terms) and the Senate (2 terms). Until this happens, we will continue to see our republic slide into oblivion.
And the $$$ that goes along with it. The Republican Party at this point is the Democrat Party of 1984.
What is sad is there are three or four core issues the Democrats will not roll over and sell out on. So far I have seen no issue the Republicans won’t surrender on. They are beyond contemptible and are far worse than the traitorous Democrats. A pox on these members and their seed for four generations, may they know only misery, pain and suffering for the damage they have done to our country!
I agree. As much as I despise Democrats, at least they stick together and do what they say they are going to do. The Republicans, during the election’s, say “Vote for me and I’ll stop illegal immigration and I’ll stop Obamacare and then, after the election, roll over and give the Democrats what they want. They even criticize and castigate the few conservative Republicans, like Cruz, who try to do what they were elected to do.
The House would have last crack at a clean bill returned from the Senate. Any amendments the House made then could not be filibustered. Rush said that this has the RATs scared to death.
