LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The truck driver arrested in a rail crash that injured 50 people in California had been cited for multiple driving violations in his home state of Arizona, including a 1998 conviction for driving under the influence, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday.

Jose Alejandro Sanchez-Ramirez, 54, was found walking and "in distress" more than a mile from the accident on Tuesday and was later taken into custody on suspicion of felony hit-and-run for leaving the scene, police said.

Bamieh said Ramirez ran for help following the impact but did not immediately call authorities because he was in shock and speaks only Spanish.

Uh, they don't have choo-choo crossings in Mexico?

And I guess that drunk driving is legal there, too?

Just how stupid do they think the reader of this article is?

If this pendejo has been in the country for 17 years and isn't fluent in English, then he is either:

Retarded.

Or lying.

Illegals often use the two last names until they’ve been here awhile and realize we only use one here.

I am skeptical that Arizona is his home state.

Bet he voted in the last several elections.

But I just can't imagine what party he voted for ...

I doubt it as well; in my area the only people considered for jobs dealing with the public must speak Spanish or Portuguese.

Can’t you take the driver’s license test in California in about 24 different languages? If so, then why is this an issue?

According to the reply just above yours (#6) many of them are not literate in any language. I believe it.

Happened to be in Ventura Co., CA during the holiday when the DMVs were handing out licenses to illegals....
Lines were out the door and around the block...
Have fun with that, CA.....

Probably his border crossing. After all, he’s likely an American in waiting.

Around the block? Try a conga-line from coast to coast.

Thankfully we can leave CA and go to a "red" state like Tx, right?

yukyuk...

500,000 illegal aliens march through downtown Dallas TX in 2006.

All while waving foreign flags and making demands and threats....All under a Republican president, during war time yet.

The driver’s test should only be in the language that the street signs are in.

They meant he lives in Arizona now, not that he was born there.

I remember those days. Folks were waiting for “the surge” in Iraq. Washington should have been attentive to the real surge that has been happening across the borders for decades.
