On Monday Senators. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., invited Netanyahu to meet in a closed-door session with Democrats during his visit. Netanyahu declined the invitation on Tuesday and expressed regret about the politically fraught tone of his trip.
I regret that the invitation to address the special joint session of Congress has been perceived by some to be political or partisan, Netanyahu wrote. I can assure you that my sole intention in accepting it was to voice Israels grave concerns about a potential nuclear agreement with Iran that could threaten the survival of my country.
Netanyahu said to meet with Democrats at this time could compound the misperception of partisanship regarding my upcoming visit.
More than a half dozen House and Senate Democrats have said they will skip the speech, calling it an affront to President Barack Obama and the administration as they engage in high-level negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. As expected Vice President Joe Biden will be traveling and has no plans to attend the speech.
Obama has no plans to meet with Netanyahu, with the administration saying such a session would break with past practices of engaging with world leaders close to elections. Israels elections are set for March 17.
Durbin said in a statement that he regretted that Netanyahu could not meet with the Democrats.
We offered the Prime Minister an opportunity to balance the politically divisive invitation from Speaker (John) Boehner with a private meeting with Democrats who are committed to keeping the bipartisan support of Israel strong, Durbin said. His refusal to meet is disappointing to those of us who have stood by Israel for decades.
Heres Netanyahus full letter declining invitation to meet with Democratic senators:
So, Little Dick Turban, now that Bibi snubbed you all
Why would he want to meet with Islamo butt licking traitors to the US and traitors to freedom loving people everywhere?
Stick it to the Senarats, Benji.
“Private meeting.” Interpretation: inquisition for one who does not think as He thinks.
(No, I don’t mean God.)
A President who is so quick to place moral equivalence between ISIS and the Inquisition should understand how someone who is Jewish can see an inquisition coming from, oh, 5,864 miles away, the distance from DC to Tel Aviv.
Now the story will be how Bibi snubbed the Democrats.
Compare Bibi’s Class Act with the petulance of our pResident. Americans should be embarrassed.
Wait a minute - I thought that the Admin/Demorats did not want to meet with Bibi so close to Israel’s elections? But they invite Bibi to a “closed door/private” meeting? Can’t have it both ways...idiots.
Bibi has more class in his little finger than every Dem in the USA combined!
The first words of Bibi’s speech to Congress should be: “I want all the American people to know without question that I love the United States of America!” He should also ask Giuliani to sit in the front row of the gallery.
Liberal heads would absolutely explode!
I love that man.
They wouldn't attend his speech but they wanted to meet with him PRIVATELY? Of course he declined.... and Oh gee! Now they can't cherry pick what he said in their ‘private’ meeting and turn it into something that NEVER came out of his mouth!!
:(
Nice try Libtards!
Obama has no plans to meet with but he is sending in his peons to set a deal not to make Obama more stupid Netanyahu gives finger.
Time to end this fiasco and cancel the visit and invitation. Then, after Bibi’s re-election, if he wins, revisit this without the partisanship and without the ‘trash America’ aspect that is evident. Maybe the House can replace Boehner in the process?
Excellent letter by the Prime Minister! He’s not falling for the Democrats cheap theatrics.
Rudy could be a "seat filler" (no disrespect intended) and sit in Biden's chair during the speech.
The Senate Dems are disgraceful!
Add Scott Walker to the entourage and they’ll be scraping brain matter off the Senate walls until 2017.
Feinstein would like to lecture Netanyahu about his proper place.

Exactly. They don’t want what they say to him to be on record. He smelled the trap and didn’t take the bait. That’s the reason he’s Israel’s man.
