Two prominent House committee chairs are deeply disappointed in Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler for refusing to testify before Congress as the future of the Internet is at stake. Wheelers refusal to go before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday comes on the eve of the FCCs vote on new Internet regulations pertaining to net neutrality. The committees chairman, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) criticized Wheeler and the administration for lacking transparency on the issue. So long as the chairman continues to insist on secrecy, we will continue calling for more transparency and accountability at the commission, Chaffetz and Upton said in a statement. Chairman Wheeler and the FCC are not above Congress. The vote on the new Internet regulations is scheduled for Thursday. The FCCs two Republican commissioners have asked Wheeler to delay the vote to allow more time for review. The changes would allow the commission to regulate the Internet like a public utility, setting new standards that require the provision of equal access to all online content.

This is what joke congress is to the Administration. They do what they want, and congress does nothing about it.
This country is in deep trouble.
The FCC Chairman needs to be found in contempt of Congress and incarcerated. TODAY!
Upton is retarded and needs to Free the Light Bulbs.
It’s a total take-over and no one seems to Cate.
This is eery and outlandish.
does McConnell even knows what the internet is? Expect Boner to give a one liner and go back to drinking.
Let me guess: Some Republican leaders expressed quiet sorrow and regret over this non-appearance. Now, the determination to actually DO SOMETHING never enters their freaking little gutless minds.
The Obama Administration will continue to flip the bird at Congress, because they know Congress is to chicken to do anything to protect the Country and Constitution.
I agree. Because if Congress does not act then tomorrow the Net Neutrality will be voted in and you can kiss the internet goodbye. This will really be bad. Obama and Wheeler are in this lockstep.
My understanding though is that if this net neutrality is voted in it will automatically be appealed and it can take 2-5 years on appeal. so hopefully they would have to stay in limbo until an appeal is resolved. By then with luck we have a GOP Prez.
The EXEMPT accept that they are a joke
(actually traitors to the US Constitution)
because ... they are EXEMPT, and there is
NOTHING their constituents can do about it.
The flag atop the 20’ pole outside my front door has been inverted since late 2007! It will remain that way for the 694 days until we put some SANE ADULTS into office!
” Two prominent House committee chairs are deeply disappointed”
Come to my house, and I will show you TRUE disappointment. My gal will help wrap bandages : )
When tyranny persists there is only one solution. I would have no qualms about taking the FCC board members that vote for this and have a public hanging to show what happens to tyrants in America.
Clearly, the FCC needs to be abolished, so there is no mechanism in government to ever do this again.
Boehner and McConnell could give surrender lessons to the French army. The Great Dictator will soon have absolute control over the Internet, the FCC will revise the Fairness Doctrine to muzzle talk radio and cable news will also get regulated by the FCC and there will not be more than a whimper from the GOP. By 2016 the only political speech allowed will be White House propaganda. I hope Rush and other conservative broadcasters have plans to broadcast in short wave from Canada or from some ship outside the coastal limits. I soon expect the US border to be secured, but only to keep people from leaving the country.
a perfect visual of what I was thinking.
Every time there is covert activity PRIOR to a vote on anything, they got something to hide.
If these guy had even some spine they would just defund the entire FCC operation for next year in response.
