I recently had a liberal versus conservative conversation with a liberal. He got spitting, irrationally angry and, I thought, potentially violent. I realized his worldview was threatened. He fired back with straw man arguments like, “I know a guy who…” That way if I say, that can’t happen I’m now attacking his word rather than discussing facts he can Google on his phone. Not only was his world view threatened, but his response was not to reevaluate his position but to make up “facts” to support it. So what we’re dealing with when we talk to liberals is them trying to change the focus of the debate to something they believe is unassailable. They control the debate by taking it personal and then blowing up because you went from facts to attacking their personal unassailable “truth.”
Arguing with a liberal is like playing chess with a pigeon.
