I remember reading in a early edition of RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT about some moslem ruler in the middle ages, who always traveled and had a large library.

One day he was killed, and the other moslems piled his thousands of books in huge piles, almost like small hills, and allowed them to disintegrate over the years in the sesert.
