Bill O'Reilly Twisted Truth On 'War Zone' Account, Says Former CBS Colleague Six other CBS journalists challenge Argentina claims as Fox News host calls allegations garbage and says he will show footage to support his reporting
Jon Swaine in New York
Sunday 22 February Former colleagues of Bill OReilly who worked alongside the Fox News anchorman in Argentina as the Falklands War ended more than 30 years ago have contradicted his claims to have encountered a perilous situation in a war zone.
Eric Engberg, a fellow CBS News correspondent who was in Buenos Aires with OReilly in 1982, said the situation there was not a war zone or even close and that he and other colleagues did not recall a dangerous incident OReilly describes involving an injured cameraman.
He has displayed a willingness to twist the truth in a way that seeks to invent a battlefield that did not exist, Engberg wrote in a Facebook post. He also ought to be ashamed of himself.
Six other CBS journalists also challenge OReillys claims, CNN reported on Sunday, adding further pressure on the 65-year-old host of the OReilly Factor.

Sometimes Megyn gets things a little wrong and never corrects herself but all in all we haven't much left to listen to so I tune her in.
So true.
Now, if you will excuse me, it’s almost time for Downton Abbey.
I have to see what scandal I can dig up on Lady Rose, Lady Mary, and Lady Edith.
Speaking of “twisting,” Eric Engberg is the same CBS reporter who produced the infamous “fact check” on Steve Forbes’s flat tax during the 1996 campaign. It was so distorted, unfair and biased that it prompted Bernie Goldberg to write his famous op-ed for the WSJ that ended his career at CBS. Since then, Engberg has refused to speak with Goldberg; it’s unsurprising he is unwilling to appear on the O’Reilly Factor and confront Bill in person. Typical, gutless liberal coward.
Clearly, Mr. Engberg is anything but an objective reporter. He remained a second-tier correspondent at CBS for 27 years by toeing the liberal line and keeping his lips spot-welded to all the right backsides.
Obviously, it is an attack from the Left. No kidding. But O’Reilly appears, from quotes I have seen that are easily found via Google, to have written and said, that with respect to the Falklands War, that he was in a “war zone” and a “combat situation”. Sure, he never said he was in the Falkands Islands themselves. But if he said and wrote those things about his experience sitting in B.A., then I think, violent street protests or not, that he exaggerated. And if that is proven to be the case, then I do not think conservatives should defend him just because he is being attacked by Lefty jerks.
I’m willing to bet that at some point Mizzz Mackris was heard to spout, “It isn’t about the money. It’s so this kind of thing never happens to anyone else.”
Translation: “It’s about the money.”
All husbands are corrupt lechers in divorce cases....besides, this article is about his reporting from the Falkland Islands.....what the hell does that have to do with divorce???
Thanks for your post giving us facts on Engberg and his hit piece of Forbes’s flat tax proposal. BO has issued a challenge to those who are accusing him to come on to the FACTOR and meet him face to face.
Do you think there is any chance of that happening?
Agree. But no we have veteran CBS reporter saying BOR may have bloviated?
Read the other comments and you al the info you want. Geraldo and BOR are about the same.

O’Reilly factor. talking Points Memo.
2/20/2015:
“I never said I was on the Falkland Islands as Corn purports. I said I covered the Falklands War, which I did.”
Now contrast and compare this to the following from O’Reilly:

What Bill O’Reilly has said about his time during the Falklands War
2/20/2015
http://money.cnn.com/2015/02/20/media/bill-oreilly-falklands-war/
“2001: O’Reilly wrote in his book “The No-Spin Zone: Confrontations with the Powerful and Famous in America,” that his time covering war made him ready for anything. “You know that I am not easily shocked,” he wrote. “I've reported on the ground in active war zones from El Salvador to the Falkland island...”
“2008: Seven years ago on the “O’Reilly factor...”By the way, I missed Moyers in the war zones of the Falkland conflict in Argentina...”
“2008: During an interview on his Fox News show, O’Reilly once again described the protest but said it took place “in a war zone in Argentina, in the Falklands.”
Apparently no one way as on the ground IN the Falkland islands.
David Corn took him to task over these and other things.
O’Reilly could have simply said that he did not report “on the ground in...the Falkland Islands, and that he was not in a “war zone...in the Falklands” and not make this about some left-wing attack, some culture war, some guttersnipe attack. Perhaps is was a diversionary tactic on his part?
It is quite ironic that O’Reilly, far from being a conservative, used the -— I'm under attack from left-wingers! defense/attack.
And it seems that more than one CBS staffer has taken O’Reilly to task over what happened in Argentina.
In the end, it all comes down to what O'Reilly said and whether O’Reilly was actually in the Falklands..
