Germantown, WI An incredible story from Friday morning starts out with a black lab named John Boy, approaching a police officer.
Germantown police officer, Jeff Gonzalez deserves credit for not only refusing to do what so many other cops do when dogs approach them, but actually getting out in the freezing weather to see why this dog was loose.
He stood there and barked a little bit, then I rolled down my window and called to him. Then he wagged his tail and got more friendly until I got out of my car. And then he ran a little bit, said Gonzalez.
John Boy was seemingly trying to get the officers attention in an effort to help his owner.
Yeah, he sure did. He pointed me in the right direction, said Gonzalez.
John Boy led the officer up the street to a house where his owner, Krystal, was unresponsive. Krystal, who suffers from a heart condition, was slumped over in a chair outside her front door, still in her pajamas. It was dangerously cold out.

What a good dog.
And what a good, and unusually perceptive, police officer. He deserves a reward, a medal and a promotion. Maybe he can help train others officers?

Labs are the most awesome dogs. I have a chocolate lab who loves everyone and all creatures. And she brings in the newspaper every morning.

Dogs like people. All you have to do is let them know you are not a threat. Police officers who don’t like dogs shouldn’t be on the force.

Yeah but I’ll bet she reads it first. My German Shepherd Collie never put the sections back in order so I knew!

Labs are the most awesome dogs. I've got a 3-month old black Lab who is still in her oral fixation stage so I'm anxiously awaiting the "awesome" stage. I'm getting her and me into puppy training so we can begin to work through this stage.
As to the article...Good Dog!! In that dog's mind, the owner was definitely in a "Timmy's down a well" situation.

Police not shooting a loose dog. The way it used to be.
