CHEYENNE - State lawmakers voted Friday to advance a bill that would prevent employers and others from discriminating against someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The House Labor, Health and Social Services Committee voted 6-2 to advance Senate File 115 and send the proposal to the House floor for more debate.
The committee's decision came after a two-hour hearing that saw emotional testimony on both sides of the issue and one local legislator ejected for a lack of "civility."
Rep. Harlan Edmonds, R-Cheyenne, who opposes of the bill, proposed an amendment near the end of the meeting to change the proposal's effective date to "when hell freezes over."
That prompted committee Chairwoman Rep. Elaine Harvey, R-Lovell, to kick him out of the room, since she warned all attendees at the start of the meeting that she would eject anyone who didn't act civilly.

It never ceases to amaze me how we pander and highlight the “rights” of 2.5% of the population. Although the media has done a bang up job of convincing the public that 1/2 of all Americans are gay. Boy, is the public stupid.
Queers shouldn’t be getting any “rights” not also provided to normal Americans.

Elaine must be one of those Republican Democrats. Her tolerance is showing.
Next thing you’ll know, they’ll be wanting to EXERCISE their gay “rights” in the workplace.
We must pander to mental illness at all costs.
This is ultimately the triumph of Alan Kooi Simpson, perhaps the first WY Republican to jump aboard the bandwagon.
Sounded to me like Rep. Edmonds may have had the most sensible idea of all in the room that day.
How about a “Shut up and don’t mention your sex life at work” law. And don’t talk about your bowel movements, or anything else personal, at the office (unless you work for a proctologist, of course!)
is this happening everywhere? where have homos been fired for being gay. THE only place I can think of is a woman was fired after she married another woman in another state, but she worked for a CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!! there have been a couple of cities in Arkansas passing laws to “protect” homos from firing. Our state legislature passed a bill saying cities and counties cannot create law that “protects” certain people. and you guessed it our weak spined republican governor did not sign or veto it, it became law. I cant stand it when republicans do this crap the left would want him to veto it, his base would want him to sign it..
Maybe they could enter a “gay rights” float in the Frontier Days parade & see how well they exhibit “civility”.
After pushing back against the usual stream of "Oh, there are tons out there. You're just too lazy to look them up." nonsense argument, I was provided TWO examples -- NEITHER of which was denial of visitation rights.
Stop and think about what we "accept" from the media. What right thinking physician would deny ANYONE access to a dying patient? Can you envision the scenario and see a doctor saying, "I'm sorry, but you're gay and not really family, so I can't let you in to see your dying partner".
NO! Of course this doesn't happen. It's just an emotional straw man that most people can relate to.
