One of the most famous speeches in American history is the one given by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, in which he said:
Yesterday, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The United States was at peace with that nation, and at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its Emperor.
Imagine if Obama gave that speech that rallied a nation into World War II. Cartoonist Bob Gorrell has envisioned such a scenario. In a new cartoon, Gorrell shows what the speech would have been like if it were edited by Barack Obama.

FDR was a statist and not a moral person, but at the end of the day he actually was a patriot.
Obama isn’t.
I turn around and think all the time, if we faced World War II today, we wouldn’t win, not with this administration. Sad. Of course, this is the worse along with Carter. Foreign Policy is such a disaster.
Leme see
‘It was all Roosevelt’s fault for the oil embargo. ‘
‘We have to win the Japanese hearts and minds.’
‘Asia is none of our business. Let them fight their own battles’,
‘We have them on the run, ignore those bombs falling in your town, no big deal’
If this were World War II, the United States under anybody with as flimsy a moral code and paucity of patriotism as the Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut, would not have lasted as long as Belgium or Czechoslovakia. And there would be no other country about to make a long protracted battle to free this territory, once known as “the United States of America”. It would have been carved up between the Third Reich and the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.
And people do not realize just how close we came to LOSING that war.
"...In my life, yesterday, December 7, 1941, a date I know which will live in infamy for me The United States of America where I live and I am President was suddenly and deliberately attacked while I ate breakfast in my house in the country where I have lived my entire life by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The United States in my mind was at peace with that nation I have often visited in my life, and at the solicitation of Japan in my understanding, was still in conversation I know with its government and its Emperor I have met many times when I have left my home many times in my life..."
On a related topic, if Hitler were Black, we would all be speaking German.
“And furthermore, we must ask the inevitable question, why do the noble and ancient Japanese people hate us? We must remember that we live in a globally interdependent world, and that our stubborn refusal to join the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere might also be legitimately construed as an act of aggression. Therefore, we must endeavor to join with our Asian partners in building harmonious and mutually beneficial relations. And now it’s off to Florida for some golf!”/SARCASM ;)
Obama would probably argue that the attack on Pearl Harbor was nothing more than an extraordinary instance of workplace violence.

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.
Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.
This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.
Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.
In the Pacific in the Solomon Islands in 1942, when we were at less than military parity with Japan, it was touch and go from December 1941 to December 1942.
The US and Japan had their hands on each other’s throats, and neither side was strong enough to put the other side away.
Wait, whut? Where is the sarcasm?
That is more than slightly revisionist: the Japs knew damn well that if they did not totally incapacitate our naval forces in their first strike, they were toast.
They did not, and they were.
The upshot was the Japanese grossly underestimated the U.S. war-making ability. Only Yamamoto understood what was going to happen.
I visualized Ø in your pictures on vacation in Hawaii and playing golf during the attack.
Not revisionist at all. You are aware of the desperate battles around Guadalcanal, aren’t you?
“Japan has done us a great favor. Now we can get decent tee times on Hawaii golf courses”
Thank you for your service. I wish my generations and beyond saw the world how we do.
God Bless America,
MP
