#2016: Hillary, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul Lead Way on Social Media

If name mentions on social media show how well their messages are connecting with voters, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz would be facing off in next year's presidential election, according to The Wall Street Journal.

On Facebook, Clinton is number one, while Cruz is ahead on Twitter.

Clinton and Cruz have dramatically different approaches to social media. The Texas Republican, who has more than 404,000 followers, tweets roughly 31 times a week, while Clinton, with 2.83 million followers, tweets about one time a week.

On Facebook, Cruz has more than two million likes on all of his pages combined, while Clinton "does not maintain a Facebook presence," the Journal reported.

The data from Facebook and Twitter only covers mentions of a politician's name and does not indicate whether the messages are positive or negative. But the most shared tweets tend to be news articles about the person or ones that share a prospective candidate's message.

I don’t think Ted is far enough up the list to accuse of cheating.

So how many does Walker have?

It’s too early to separate name recognition in any poll on leading candidates. Bush will always have that be a part of any poll including his name.

At some point, though, it would be nice if Americans would base their selection of a candidate based on that candidate’s actual policy ideas. I know that’s a lot to ask — maybe even a pipe dream — but it sure would be nice.

I guess conservatives could learn how to manipulate low-info voters the same as everyone else.

I believe you can set it up for alerts like email but I don’t want thousands of emails.

As it is you get comments from people you choose to follow, their responses to others and retweets (comments from others that they chose to share with their followers) I have some 300 followers who see my comments. For instance they all saw my comment to Nancy Pelosi that she’s a rectal wart.

In a sense its a great real time news service depending on who you follow. It takes some tweaking to your own preferences but its not loaded with ads or popups. I always have a window open to FR and another window open to my twitter feed. I personally can’t stand facebook for all the things that twitter isn’t.

It's doubtful that Ted Cruz would stoop to manipulating voters, however, I do think he will use every possible tool he has at his disposal, whether technical or not, to reach every possible voter with his message of Limited Constitutional Government.

When I think of those who don’t know Lincoln was president during the Civil War, I can’t help but wonder how they make decisions about how to vote.

In the case of those people, manipulation is probably the only way to get them to the polls.

Done and thanks.

How do I get involved with the Ted Cruz campaign?

I'm a former President of the UofL-Lafayette (was USL before the name change) chapter of College Republicans (93-95). I can do more than just send/recieve texts.

I thankfully live in Cedar Park now, so I get access to Austin without having to live there.

Ted Cruz is a true Statesman. None of the other candidates come close, and we need to work hard NOW to stop the potential continuance of the Clinton/Bush oligarchy.
