Kirby put a new meaning to REAR in REAR Admiral. And he sort of tarnishes the word Admiral in the process as there is little admirable about his service.

I know an ex-admiral....one of the finest human beings and decent guys I’ve come across. He earned his flag rank for putting so much ordinance and supplies on Diego Garcia prior to Gulf 1 that it almost sank. I’m sure there are some admirals in the navy (only 216 in all by the way) who are a little shaky, but I doubt many are worthy of the turd pile. The most interesting thing I learned from this article was that Kirby reported to a civilian P.R. person.
