Not just NYC but also most big coastal cities like Boston.
Not just coastal cities either. DC used to end a little beyond the Washington Monument. Constitution Ave from there up to the Capital was a creek (Tiber Creek) that was converted into a canal, then filled in and paved over.
I think Seattle is similar....and they have earthquake issues, too...and can’t seem to get that new viaduct built (on waterfront)...that I predicted would be MUCHO PROBLEMO ....
