Before you get too steamed you should check the number of people working jobs who still fall below the poverty line and qualify for food stamps.

Being out of money after you pay your other bills isn’t subjective.
In case you haven’t noticed everything except wages have gone up.
So more people are working full time and still not having enough money to eat and sleep inside.

Poverty line is a subjective measurement. Our "poor" are the richest in the world- fact. They certainly have more than I ever had when I was single and working my hiney off. But I prioritized and did without a lot of "stuff". I had what I needed to get by and that was it. And I never applied for gov't. assistance. I just worked a little harder to improve my lot in life.
Way too many nanny-staters nowadays. And they're given no incentive to stop.
