WHEN Karen Pineman of Manhattan received notice that her longtime health insurance policy didnt comply with the Affordable Care Acts requirements, she gamely set about shopping for a new policy through the public marketplace. After all, shed supported President Obama and the act as a matter of principle.
Ms. Pineman, who is self-employed, accepted that shed have to pay higher premiums for a plan with a narrower provider network and no out-of-network coverage. She accepted that shed have to pay out of pocket to see her primary care physician, who didnt participate. She even accepted having co-pays of nearly $1,800 to have a cast put on her ankle in an emergency room after she broke it while playing tennis.
But her frustration bubbled over when she tried to arrange a follow-up visit with an orthopedist in her Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield network: The nearest doctor available who treated ankle problems was in Stamford, Conn. When she called to protest, her insurer said that Stamford was 14 miles from her home and 15 was considered a reasonable travel distance. It was ridiculous didnt they notice it was in another state? said Ms. Pineman, 46, who was on crutches.
She instead paid $350 to see a nearby orthopedist and bought a boot on Amazon as he suggested. She has since forked over hundreds of dollars more for a physical therapist that insurance didnt cover, even though that provider was in-network.

14 miles?
14 miles is not too far to travel to the doctor. There is much more wrong with Obamacare than this example.
Oh surely not...that's just "Republican propaganda" and "scare tactics."
Same thought,
I think you better read that again...the point was that it was bogus (NYC to Stamford, CT is much more than 14 miles).
Although it appears it is actually just an hour away...two hours round trip...so compared to some other Obamacare horror stories, she’s lucky. Still, in NYC there must be countless ortho doctors but none under the Obamacare plan.
Must be using Obama math. Maybe Stamford is 35 miles from Manhattan by car, perhaps slightly less as a bird flies, but no way is it 14 miles away.
But this is from the New York Times - truth and accuracy mean nothing to them, of course.
Karen is obviously a heretic. She needs to be destroyed by the administration.

Too funny. Another state! It is not like the adjoining state is a foreign country. It was 14 freaking miles away.
Stop complaining, Mizz Pineman, the extra you pay will insure an illegal alien. Don’t be a racist.
we told ya, health insurance is not the same as healthcare.
I don’t see what they are whining about they are “insured” LOL!!!!

More like “Drink your Piss” because Obamacare will only cover 1/2 your prescription and since a lot of drugs exit the body unused, they will have to start doing this...
[ Stop complaining, Mizz Pineman, the extra you pay will insure an illegal alien. Dont be a racist. ]
Why the hell can’t we charge the countries the illegals are for for ANY services they USE while in this country??? And add a 1000% “convenience fee” to the bill for them to boot!
Then I would be ALL FOR giving healthcare to all the illegals that could make it here...
After we ended up owning all of Mexico and vast majority of central America’s resources or illegal immigration ended from their side whichever happens first....
Let’s start with their beachfront property one square mile at a time. Every year we could annex x amount to pay for the last year’s debt. Annex Day could be a national holiday! ;^)
Hell we could use this to defund the foreign aid and UN payments, the money is first deducted from the annual foreign aid we send to said country, then when that fund dries up, we start deducting from the money we send tot he UN, when that dries up we demand CASH or LAND, THEIR CHOICE!
Life’s a Bitch, and then your fellow Voters Elect one.
OK!
