I read the opposite. Dresden was selected as a target to help Stalin.

If Kurt Vonnegut wasn’t a POW near there and didn’t write Slaughterhouse-Five, would most of us have heard about Dresden?

My uncle was a forced laborer there (Polish slave) and survived. He told me he knew the war would soon be over when Allied planes blotted out the sun in daylight.

The soviets kept a lid on most of the war-city information as well. It made the Allies look like we firebombed an artful city that had nothing to do with waging war.
