“However, look at the phenomenon I call the “Trey Goudy Effect.” Sound and fury, essentially signifying nothing ....”

Time to take you to school, Kenny Bunk. Trey Gowdy passed a bill out of the judiciary committee that gave states the power to enforce federal immigration law. Guess what? Boehner refused to bring that committee bill onto the floor for a vote.

Now, go ahead and tell everyone on FR how that’s Gowdy’s fault.

Thank you for that, Sergeant! I shall severely curtail my Trey Gowdy reporting, pending further research. But what I feared, perhaps wrongly, is that Trey had been schooled by friend Boehner in that particular shootout. In particular I was most unhappy with Trey's public statements in support of what IMNVHO, is Amnesty.

Gave states the power to enforce federal immigration law.

I take that to mean that in the absence of federal enforcement (which is the norm) the states would step in and do the job. Constitutionally, I believe that wish, admirable as it may be, is on very shaky legal ground and would not withstand a federal challenge. Cynical as I have become, I suspected that Trey knew his proposal would not pass muster and made it as a grand gesture.

I hope I am dead wrong! I surely will take another look at Trey with you. He's got a good pulpit now. He has certainly succeeded in separating his "brand" from the Republican Establishment, so let's see what gets done 2015-2016 to save the Republic. Frankly, so far all I see are missed opportunities and inopportune caving-in to the Admin.

What Kenny is saying (correct me if I'm wrong kb) is that it's simple arithmetic.

The "conservatives" who pass such bills out of committee know that the bills will never pass the whole House. And they know they will never pass the whole Senate - not even close. And if they did, (like lightning striking you everywhere you walk every hour for 20 years - that doubtful), they absolutely 100% know for absolute 100% certainty that Obamster will use his puppet hands to veto said bill.

So they could draw up very nice bills that real conservatives love - and be a conservative hero. And the elite establishment that murders those who step out of line will have no problem at all with them passing all these bills in committee. It preserves the illusion for conservative sheeple that someone in Congress represents them. So the elites LOVE those "conservatives". They could pass bills to abolish whole departments of government. The could pass bills to make Christian prayer encouraged in schools. They could pass bills outlawing sodomy. Anything and everything is great ! Because EVERYONE (but us conservative sheeple) knows that NONE of those bills will ever become law.

All that the elites do is make sure that those "hardcore conservatives" are a small minority of Congress. Then there's no danger of them doing anything to upset the financial elites' preference for totalitarian anti-Christian government.
