I blame the parents....your child was in solidarity with the Syrian people...that’s nice. But they are muslims, solidarity with what exactly? Now she’s dead, just like the ones she was in solidarity with. And this helped these people how exactly?
Why didn’t you as parents dissuade her more forcefully from going into a muslim hellhole?

I have neither the courage nor the conviction to do what Ms. Mueller did. But i won’t sit here at my comfortable desk and tell you “I have no sympathy for her”. I do. She was an idealistic kid who got killed trying to do her small part to make the world a better place.
I wonder if “humanitarian aid workers” are just liberals trying to spread Feminism in the world.

She knew the risks and still took them. But this wasn’t a victim-less deal. If anything, she had a casual disregard for her family. In that part of the world, it’s not a matter of “if something will happen” but “when”.
It may be a noble thing to go to North Korea to push for reforms but it won’t go well for you.

Sorry, but you can make the argument that anyone who signs up to join the Marines or the Army has a “casual disregard” for their family also. And plenty of people have gone to that part of the world and returned safely.
Part of having children is accepting that at some point they become adults who are responsible for their own decisions.
Except that the military isn’t a matter of “when”. Very few military people get kidnapped so it’s not a valid comparison. The military is actually quite safe
