Congressman Alcee Hastings, a Florida Democrat, started the rumble during a House committee meeting by saying that Texass refusal to join Obamacares exchanges made it a crazy state. He then refused to apologize to Representative Michael Burgess, a Texas Republican who challenged him.
Those became fighting words. Former governor Rick Perry, a likely 2016 presidential candidate, responded during a speech at the American Principles Project: He is right! We are crazy! he enthused. Were crazy about jobs, were crazy about opportunity, were crazy about liberty, were crazy about the Constitution! Charles Murray, the libertarian American Enterprise Institute scholar who hails from Iowa, weighed in by saying, Ive always thought of Texas as the place that is still most like America, pointing to the self-reliant, can-do spirit the state still represents. Florida governor Rick Scott also joined in, noting that he has often cited Texas as a tax-cutting role model; then he joked about out-dueling Perry as a jobs generator.

We are crazy....please do not move to Texas if you are a democrat!
If the impeached Alice Hastings thinks Texas is “crazy”, Texas is normal.
Yes.
And Yes.
Yes on both. “Real America” is crazy to a democrat.
GMTA
I remember hearing a popular tune on the radio after I moved to Texas in 1978. Part of the lyrics went something like this:
“While you’re laughing and calling us funny...we’re going to be helping you spend your money...”
What was the name of this song?
Double affirmative. In a good way.
impeached Alice Hastings is unfit to serve as Dog Catcher.
Isn’t this the second posting of this article?
Fact is, there are some few Democrats in Texas (that is where Elbeejay came from, you know), and while they are in pretty much of an eclipse now, they are still lurking in places like Austin and in various pockets up and down the Rio Grande and isolated enclaves elsewhere. But almost overwhelmingly, in the suburban and rural Texas precincts, the state is “red-state conservative”, not merely Republican.
A good start for the rest of America, we can build on that.
DUPLICATE POSTING ...
Is Texas Crazy or Is It the Real America?

A little of both.
Meanwhile, Collin County, Texas (Plano), just pased an LGBT ordinance; Fort Worth Stockshow opened their rodeo with an Imam giving a “blessing”; Austin is jacked up; we have openly gay churches and public leaders; and we have more and more Californians moving in the state.
Nothing is secure in this state any longer.

I just moved away from Texas (lived there 17 years) to Arkansas (I’m more of a hills, trees, and water type of guy), and I think I can confirm this. Texas will be blue in about 20 years. I’m new to these forums so I’m not sure how much this is discussed.
The GOP knows it very well. If that happens, it’s going to be hard to win the White House. CA is blue, FL swings like a barn door in a high wind, and then there’s Texas.
My recommendation is that if you like no state income tax (high prop tax though), real conservatism, and don’t mind roasting for 9 months out of the year, that you move to Texas and swell the conservative ranks - because Californians did indeed move out there in droves in the late 90’s and early 2000s to get away from high priced real estate and crazy taxation - they’re still liberal though...go figure.
Standard of living-wise and job opportunities it’s a win-win. I just couldn’t stand the heat, humidity.
Alcee Hastings, for those Freepers who may not be aware, was a federal judge who was impeached and removed from office in 1989.
Let’s put it this way - he was so damn guilty (of taking a bribe and perjury) that the Dem-controlled House of Representatives impeached him a 413-3 vote. The Dem-controlled Senate found him guilty on 8 of 11 charges.
He has, IIRC, never apologized for what he did or even acknowledged that he committed those crimes while a federal judge.
He is a truly a detestable person.
Rural Texas is real America. Houston, Austin etc. are just more communist liberals on a heap. Texas politics are
just as corrupt as anywhere else.
Hastings doesn’t get to define what Texas is. The fact that he tried just shows what an arrogant azzzzzzhole he is.
