Like almost every Democrat, I also support the Second Amendment and the fundamental right to bear arms. At the same time, I also believe in common sense legislation to restrict felons and the mentally ill from possessing firearms. I support laws that require background checks and limit access to high explosives.
For the last thirty years, Democrats have allowed the NRA and the Republican Party to define us as people who want to take your guns away. It is time for the Democratic Party to define its own position rather than allowing others that privilege.
Surely, responsible gun owners like myself can see that a gun in every car, guns in every bar, guns in every business parking lot, guns in every church, guns at little league ball games, and guns at political rallies create a dangerous and unstable situation.
I firmly believe that we, the responsible gun owners of Tennessee of every political persuasion, can come together and find a way to possess guns for protection and sport and still severely limit the abilities of criminals, terrorists, and crazy people to possess the killing machine of their choice.
No one in America has or will come to take it away from you. Not Democrats, not Republicans. Thats a fantasy concocted by the NRA and dishonest politicians to scare you into voting their way.

“Surely, responsible gun owners like myself can see that a gun in every car, guns in every bar, guns in every business parking lot, guns in every church, guns at little league ball games, and guns at political rallies create a dangerous and unstable situation.”
Basically almost everywhere you would need a weapon to defend yourself. This guy wants your gun at home where it belongs. What a tool!
He supports your right to own a registered firearm, if you are allowed, and keep it in a locked safe you do not have a combination for down at the local “gun club”, always unloaded of course.
Pew Research, 2013, "What do you think is more important -- to protect the right of Americans to own guns, or to control gun ownership?"
Protect Gun Rights:
Democrats 22% - Republicans 70%
Control Ownership:
Democrats 73% - Republicans - 27%
Democrats love to lie, and they love to be lied to, so long as the lie they are told fits in with lies they are telling. Democrats are not interested in supporting the right of people to possess firearms. They are interested turning that right into a privilege, and and dictating the terms of that privilege, until they can dictate it away.

That does sound rather cumbersome! That is why I would rather just stick wit the 2nd Amendment.
“Then, we move on to I support laws that require background checks and limit access to high explosives. Once more, we already have laws requiring background checks and we still have criminals with guns because those guns are obtained through illegal means. I also know many reasonable people with common sense and none of them are trying to obtain explosives.”
The ‘high explosives’ they want to regulate/ban are reloading supplies. That way they can regulate guns by making ammo too expensive with taxes. If people can reload that tool is gone from their gun-grabber tool kit!
Then in the next paragraph he says
Surely, responsible gun owners like myself can see that a gun in every car, guns in every bar, guns in every business parking lot, guns in every church, guns at little league ball games, and guns at political rallies create a dangerous and unstable situation.
A gun in every car being an unstable situation is his doublespeak for no guns in any car. So he his taking away the right to carry. He wants to take your guns away when you leave the house. Liberals want your guns locked up in a safe where they will do you the most good.
Every time I hear one of these reasonable liberals speaking in soothing tones, I picture the serpent in the Garden.
Really, we could make a game out of that phrase...
Like Almost Every Democrat (and you fill in the blank as so)
I slake my thirst with toilet water
I bite my toenails on public transit
I wet myself when I see a gun
I Consider converting to islam
Etc...
“That does sound rather cumbersome! That is why I would rather just stick wit the 2nd Amendment.”
Second Amendment as intended. I remember reading some of the t2010hings they were for when they were created, I don’t remember the year. As I recall unions were involved with their formation and their purpose was to have a “gun friendly organization” to endorse democrats.
“Responsible gun owners...”
As opposed to what? Irresponsible gun owners? That’s nothing more than a code phrase for “I get to have one but you don”t”.
As the owner of anything, you have a responsibility to ensure that whatever it is, it doesn’t present an unreasonable hazard to other people. Your car, your yard, your swimming pool, your Rottweiler, etc. Why do the gun control fanatics always feel the need to single out guns?
I don’t want irresponsible people to have guns, either. But, sadly, some do and they have to be dealt with one at a time and not by making life more difficult for everyone else. You don’t put a breathalyzer in every car because one fool drove drunk. Why do these anti-gun people think it’s OK to require all the odious laws and rules and ridiculous “safety” features” for guns and gun owners because a few stupid ones screwed up? Punish them and leave the rest of us the hell alone.
Interesting how Democrat Jim Lewis never quotes the 2d Amendment. Pussy wants to drag his fellow Communists down into his hole.
...like Sen. Joe Manchin? Like [then] Sen. John Kerry? PTUI!
