MY alternative plan would be to offer to loan firearms (along with safe storage containers), as well as concealed carry licenses, to ALL adults (regardless of ethnicity) who have an established work history, at least a high school degree, and no arrests or convictions more serious than a traffic ticket who live in crime-ridden neighborhoods. Terms of the loan include attending (and successfully completing) firearms training classes, and being financially responsible for the loaned firearm, including having to show the loaned firearm at required annual refresher courses.

Sure. Another government program is all we need.

Hows about we just let ALL CITIZENS regardless of their education, job, legal history know that we encourage them to defend themselves and that they are responsible for safe weapons handling. That’s what the constitution implies. There. No new laws needed. No quickly corrupted government run program where loaned guns will be disappeared and the system gamed.

Financial responsibility is a vague enough term for the bureaucrats in government run programs to basically define what suits their agenda, like the “may issue” gun permit sham. If someone is financially responsible, they can afford to buy a gun. Not everyone needs a high quality gun, there are many inexpensive reliable guns.

I have two brothers who chose not to complete high school and they are successful family men. They are financially responsible and own their own guns.

If one doesn’t meet the criteria for established work history, what might that mean to same bureaucrats? Many lazy people get by without working to a standard that a government agency defines, and they should be able to defend themselves, and can bargain however they choose to obtain a weapon.

Bad guys misusing their weapons soon loose their freedom or their lives. Bad guys released from prison deserve the benefit of the doubt they can get by without misusing their weapons, or why are we releasing them, and should not be made defenseless. If we make it illegal for said released bad guys to possess a means of self defense, are we willing to give them them the protection they need? Didn’t think so. Are said released bad guys that intend to misuse their weapons deterred by possession of weapons being illegal for them? No again.

Freedom, and serious prosecution of those who abuse it are the ingredients for the safest country that enjoys liberty.
