Viscount Garnet Wolseley fought his way in to Khartoum only to discover he was just late. Chinese Gordon had been executed by the Muslims the day before.

There was an excellent movie about this with Charlton Heston playing Chinese Gordon.

I saw it years ago. It was a good movie but knowing what was eventually going to happen made it hard for me to watch.
