That's right he was but St-Jean Philby was known to TE Lawrence butwas not aware of the treachury of Philby until he got to Paris in 1919 and realized that his efforts in the middle east were in vain: The middle east were divied up by centers of western influence with the French getting the western levant, americans Saudi Arabia and Brits Iraq. The french only realized later that they were played by the brits and americans given that oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia by Americans and Philby convinced the Brits that there was nothing there. He was a double agent in the pay of American intelligence services, just like his son. He was even a convert to Islam. This US connection came through his meeting with Allan Dulles who would one day run the CIA.
This guy Philby was a piece of work but still an incredible story. He outmaneuvered everybody. Gertrude Bell who was an intel agent and his controller for the Brits in Baghdad was also played.
