The reason Chris Kyle punched out Jesse Ventura is because Jesse used his claim (arguably false - he was UDT not a SEAL) of being a Navy SEAL and his claims of being a combat vet (totally false) to hang out with Chris Kyle's team of SEALs that had just returned from a tour of duty overseas and which had takes heavy losses in combat.

Ventura told Kyle and the SEALs that they deserved to take losses and the killing of their friends and team mates was justified because they were essentially war criminals.

Kyle punched Ventura out when he defamed the SEALs and took the enemy's side on the death of his friends.

Ventura denied what he said and sued Kyle for slander.

From Ventura’s comments, it sure seems in character and very likely that he actually said exactly what Kyle claimed he said.

IMHO, It was wrong for Kyle to have punched out Ventura for mere verbal abuse. (He could have rightly ejected Ventura from their presence, if this was a private party, carrying him out by the scruff of the neck like a puppy.) That said, there are even worse things and Jesse is now showing them like the flowers of skunk weed.
