“New Englands wholesale price spikes, noted that a cool summer and slowing economy in Asia contributed to low demand in a normally robust global market for gas”
I would perceive the exchange rate and the strength of the US dollar would also have something to do with it. Even thought the Juan is pegged to the dollar.
The obstructionists to the Kinder Morgan proposed pipeline through southern NH will use this to say: see we do not need to build this DANGEROUS pipeline through our backyards. We can buy LNG from Trinidad instead.
Many of the NO NH Pipeline folks biggest complaint is that the natural gas going through the proposed NH line will end up in MA, CT and ME. That we(NH) will not benefit that much from the increased capacity. They do not understand how much of our electricity now comes from natural gas. These same folks are also against the Northern Pass to bring hydroelectric power down from Quebec. They do not notice that National Grid just put in a 22% rate increase to their customers 20 miles away.
Of course, they were also against burning coal and the Seabrook Nuclear plant, windmills in their backyard, outdoor wood burning furnaces, etc.
The dopes in Connecticut voted down a Natural Gas Unloading terminal that would have been in the middle of Long Island Sound. If they built that terminal Connecticut and New York wouldn’t have a Natural Gas shortage problem.
Will LNG work as a replacement for propane or does one have to do modifications on appliances, tank etc.??
