His job pays him $10.55 an hour, which he claims is not enough for him to buy his own car

56 years old, works in a factory for 10 freaking years and they're paying the man 10.55 an hour?

Good grief...What a sad joke..

How in hell can even afford to pay rent etc, let alone a car?

??

The man has paid his dues. Now a college student started a fund to help him and it's gotten over $40,000. A Chevrolet dealer has offered him a free 2014 Cruz or Sonic. He's also had people that have been accustomed to seeing him walk the route pick him up and give him a ride. But in all the man has perseverance to say the least.

Honestly? A factory worker in Detroit makes $10.55 per hour? This is an entry level wage. What’s up with that? What’s wrong with him?

At $10.50 an hour a car would likely be out of his reach money wise. Cost of Living would make it all but impossible. What is posible down south due to lower prices isn't in northern states. Then you have to factor in liability insurance, Tags {in some states a high wheel tax}, & MAINTENANCE & upkeep on the vehicle. A brake job alone can be well above $800 thanks to companies intentionally building thinner rotors that won't allow for any turning down. Priorities are shelter and food first including heating and water.

That said he needs a higher paying job. His reliability alone in these times is worth a lot more than $10.50 in most places. Maybe a better offer will come along for him.
