My oldest two were offered hot dogs last summer. They each took a bite and grimaced. Luckily I had brought fresh guacamole and organic blue corn chips to the party. They happily munched on that instead of the “kid food” that was served. When we eat out they order grilled salmon with baked sweet potatoes, cinnamon only. They beg for cashews and bananas at snack time. They are six, three, and 17 months.
Well, it’s nice your kids won’t touch “junk food” like hot dogs - delicious if kosher. The great food writer Laurie Colwin turned into an organic cook in the late 1980s assuring Gourmet readers that her little girl adored arugula and homemade yogurt. Well, the great Colwin died at a very young age and her daughter grew up into a journalist. And, yes, she’s written that, in fact, she despised all the terrible food her mother served her!
I do recommend her books “Home Cooking” and “More Home Cooking” - there’s plenty of good recipes sandwiched in between Brewer’s Yeast Delight and Broccoli Rape Fritters.
And to each his dietary own, lol.
