In fact I do rely on Apple spell check, and it accepts both "skeptic" and “sceptic.”

Same word, same definition, two different acceptable spellings. I note that the same is not true of FR spell check, which accepts “skeptics” only.

Sceptic is the English spelling.
Skeptic is the American English spelling.
