And Cruz was just getting rolling; he challenged his potential rivals for the 2016 Republican nomination to, in effect, put up or shut up:
If you say you oppose the presidents unconstitutional executive amnesty, show me where you stood up. If you say you support life and you support marriage, show me were you stood up and fought. If you say you say youll stand up to the Washington establishment, the career politicians of both parties that got us in this mess, then show me where you stood up and fought.
Cruz received massive applause when he called for the complete repeal of Obamacare, the lockdown of the US-Mexico border, the rollback of EPA, and the abolition of the IRS.
Of course, other GOPers, also in Des Moines on Saturday, made similar points in their speeches, and other GOPers have also walked the walk.
Still, Cruzs analysis is worth examining, because he is perhaps the most articulately consistent in making the the stand up point and explaining what it means for the 2016 general election. As Cruz says, activist cant let the leadership say one thing and do another. Indeed, in the wake of the recent fiasco over the fetal-pain legislation in the House, Cruzs critique takes on new force.
So even those Republicans who might not support his candidacy should consider his argument about winning a year from November.
At the Myrtle Beach Tea Party gathering on the 18th, Cruz made fun of Washington Graybeardshis term for the loss-prone elite Republican consultant class

Nice words. Get back with me when he decides to run outside the GOP. I’ll vote for him in a heartbeat. Not gonna happen if he runs as an R, though. Such a shame, that.
Go, Cruz, GO!!
You remind me of the people who voted for John Anderson instead of Reagan in 1980.
And you are obviously one of the ones who continues to vote R no matter what, which is destroying my Country. Get on board with freedom.
Gov. Reagan almost beat the GOP guy (Ford) in 76. The other Republican (later) Independent (1980) Anderson also ran.
I sense your implying Sen. CRUZ can’t win as a R, I respectfully disagree.
It is to late to reform the GOP-e for the 2016 Presidential Election. But if Sen. Cruz follows Reagans 1980 strategy, I believe he has a chance. At that point we (Conservatives) can Rebrand/Remake the GOP, just as President Reagan did, though it was not as long lasting as most (here) wish it had been
If the Man/Women is NOT Conservative, I’ll sit this one out, like I did the last two.
In the past election, and for the first time, I refused to vote for my CINO congressman (rated D by Conservative Review) and did a 'write in' for my CINO Senator John Cornyn. I refuse to hold my nose when I vote anymore.
Bill Cunningham said Sunday night on his show, GOP has never won the presidency without Ohio. So, that is a real bellwether, you have to get some swing-states. Hopefully, Cruz can win Ohio and other battleground states. The swing-states are the tricky part.
Not gonna happen. Just won't. Been trying to do that now for a couple decades at least. Not going to happen.
