Jesus was QUITE CONTENTIOUS ... :-) ...
Romans 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Proverbs 26:21 As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife
and others
I wouldn't consider Jesus contentious ... but words can be, and have been, made to have different meanings over time
A woman as a help meet, is a woman as a help right (or correctly) .. the perfect companion for a man
Meet no longer means that.
Perhaps if Jesus was "contending" for the faith He might be contentious in today's parlance
