Because it isn't his wedding ring. He's had it since college days.

Don't know if we can link to the site but the story can be searched by the caption, "Obama has been wearing the ring since attending occidental college" or first sentences, "As a student at Harvard Law School, then-bachelor Barack Obama’s practice of wearing a gold band on his wedding-ring finger puzzled his colleagues.
