I was speaking in general terms, not specifically to this case. I didn't see when she received the vaccine and how much time had elapsed between receiving it and falling ill. It's possible she already had the virus in her when she received the vaccine. It's also entirely possible that the specific vaccine lot was compromised or the single multi-use vial being used to administer vaccines was compromised. It's also possible that there was a medication error of some kind. We don't know.

What we do know is that this is one single incident. Many millions of other people have received the vaccine and have not died from influenza.

I have always had mixed feelings about mandatory vaccinations for a number of reasons. I went ahead and got the shot though because my employer would have forced me to wear a mask around during my 12 hour shifts if I hadn't and I really didn't want to do that. I have had three viral infections since getting the shot but no influenza. I'm currently fighting a viral upper respiratory infection in fact. That's how nature intended it.
