Hmmmm ... 80 people sued the company that made the gas cans ... and put it out of business. In addition, Walmart decided to “chip in” $25 MILLION out of their own pockets to settle those claims!
I guess Walmart just decided to throw in $25 Million of their own money ... out of the goodness of their heart ... :-) ...
The gubmint has mandated those pour-proof spouts. Any gas you can get to come out of the can, goes all over you, the ground, and your vehicle or machine.
If anyone should get sued, it's the government.
Often it is far more economical for a corporation to pay a settlement, even if the case is bogus, as opposed to leaving it to a jury that has been subjected to a barrage of anti-corporation propaganda.

I bought several of these cans at Walmart. They were great cans with a handle on the top and side. The problem wasn’t that they allowed flame”back into” the can, and any flame in a can is bad news. It was that the cans would not vent properly
when you poured gas out. Gas fumes would come out at high velocity as you poured. Not good when refilling equipment just turned off.
